چکیده

We present a theoretical model to estimate the influence of photopigment optical density (OD) on the color vision of anomalous trichromats. Photopigment spectral sensitivities are generated using the Lamb (1995) template, which we correct for OD and pre-receptoral filters. Sixteen hyperspectral images (Foster, Nascimento, & Amano, 2004; Nascimento, Ferreira, & Foster, 2002) are analyzed, and the signals produced in the post-receptoral channels calculated. In the case of anomalous trichromats whose two longer-wavelength cones have peak sensitivities that lie close together in the spectrum, color vision can be substantially enhanced if the cones differ in optical density by a realistic amount.

Richer color experience in observers with multiple photopigment opsin genes.

Traditional color vision theory posits that three types of retinal photopigments transduce light into a trivariate neural color code, thereby explaining color-matching behaviors. This principle of trichromacy is in need of reexamination in view of molecular genetics results suggesting that a substantial percentage of women possess more than three classes of retinal photopigments. At issue is th...

Effect of Ink Formulation and Paper Surface Morphology on Ink-jet Printing Properties

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of type of alcohols and humectants in inks formulation, and the papers surface morphology on the ink-jet printing properties. In order to investigate the influence of alcohol and humectant types on printing properties, the optimum ink formulation from previous study, which contained C.I. Reactive Blue 21 Ink2 was formulated with different ...

Cone photopigment in older subjects: decreased optical density in early age-related macular degeneration.

We measured changes to cone photoreceptors in patients with early age-related macular degeneration. The data of 53 patients were compared with normative data for color matching measurements of long- and middle-wavelength-sensitive cones in the central macula. A four-parameter model quantified cone photopigment optical density and kinetics. Cone photopigment optical density was on average less f...

Evolutionary models of color categorization. II. Realistic observer models and population heterogeneity.

The evolution of color categorization is investigated using computer simulations of agent population categorization games. Various realistic observer types are implemented based on Farnsworth-Munsell 100 Hue Test human performance data from normal and anomalous trichromats, dichromats, and humans with four retinal photopigments. Results show that (i) a small percentage of realistically modeled ...

Mapping cone photopigment optical density.

The distribution of cone photopigment across the retina affects the amount of light captured by cones at each retinal location. Cone photopigment optical density is measured in two ways, with reflectometry and/or with color matching. Color matching measures a higher optical density than does reflectometry. Control experiments confirm that large-field color matches measure photopigment optical d...
